STUDIES IN ACTS

INTRODUCTION:
Last week, we saw the folly of choosing first and then asking the Holy Spirit to bless your choice. We also learnt a lot of lessons from the fall of Judas Iscariot. Today, we move to the next chapter of the Book of Acts, we pray that God will bless us richly in Jesus name. Amen.

1. THE HOLY SPIRIT IS GIVEN FOR THE HARVESTING OF SOULS
The feast of Pentecost is held from 6th to 13th of June after the harvesting of wheat. Acts 2: 1 – 4; Acts 2: 41. This shows clearly that the Holy Spirit choose this day of Pentecost to come because the principal purpose of the Holy Spirit is to harvest souls an to separate the wheat from the tares. John 16: 7 – 13; Exodus 32: 26 – 28.

2. THERE WAS A PURPOSE BEHIND THE TARRYING OF THE APOSTLES TOO
Some of the reasons why the apostles had to tarry long in the upper room before the Holy Spirit descended on them are to have time to (i) Pray (ii) repent thoroughly (iii0 meditate (iv) Surrender and (v) obey.

2 Chronicles 7: 14; 1 John 1:9; Romans 13: 8; Psalm 66: 18; 1 Corinthians 1: 20; 1 Corinthians 1: 25; Psalm 73: 21; 1 Samuel 2: 3 – 4; Psalm 73: 26; 1 Corinthians 1: 27; Psalm 73: 27 –28; Romans 6: 13; John 4: 34; Acts 5: 32; Matthew 18: 19; Jeremiah 29:13; Acts 1: 8, Ecclesiastes 9: 16 – 17.
