SUBTOPIC: GLORY KILLER – ADDICTION

INTRODUCTION
MentalHelp.net defines addiction as the repeated involvement with a substance or activity despite the substantial harm it now causes, because that involvement was (and may continue to be) pleasurable and/ or valuable. Addictions comes in various forms. Examples are sex, drug, pornography, alcohol, gambling, video game, social media, food, shopping, television etc. As Christians, we are supposed to be addicted to God not to substances and activities that draws our attention away from Him.

DISCUSSION
1. Give reasons why Christians are addicted to substances and/or activities? 1 Cor.
15:33; James 1:14-15.’
2. Arrange the examples mentioned in the introduction above under the broad
heading of substance and j activity addictions. Give other examples.
3. Is addiction a sign of mental sickness? Discuss.
4. How can one overcome addiction? Romans 1(3:13; 2i Cor. 6: 14-18;Gal.5:16&22-
23;Eph.4:22-24;James 4:7

CONCLUSION
In the beginning, addiction may seem enjoyable, it may bring excitement and an out of this – world experience. It may even make us feel on top of the world and accepted among our peers. The end of it is not often good. It can only lead to destruction and death. So come out of it and be separated unto the Lord for there is no fellowship between light and darkness.
