GOD KNOWS HIS PEOPLE

READING: 2 Timothy 2:14-21

TOPIC: GOD KNOWS HIS PEOPLE

Verse 19 of our reading today makes it clear that God knows those who belong to Him. In other words, there are some people who though created by God, yet do not belong to God. Matthew 7:21 tells us that those who belong to God are those who do what God wants and not those who give false impression that they belong to God. When you go to the entrance doors to some people’s houses or approach the windscreens of some people’s vehicles, you may see some stickers with such inscriptions as “Believe it or
not, I am a child of God”, “My case is different because I am born again”, etc. Some of the people with those stickers tell lies, some commit fornication, adultery, while some live holy lives. These stickers may be good, but are not the mark of people who belong to God. Belonging to God means believing in Him, living for Him, loving what He loves and doing what He wants.

Those who belong to God are those who consciously depart from iniquity. On the other hand, the people who do not belong to God automatically belong to the devil. They
are adulterers, bribe givers and receivers, liars, murderers, thieves etc. 1John 3:8 tells us that sinners are from the devil.

The import of this is that we may deceive people by our words and stickers, but we cannot deceive God. If you want to be a true child of God, and to go to heaven at last, do your best to depart from sin and live in holiness and righteousness.

Breathe on me breath of God
Fill me with life anew
