READING: Luke 1:26-38
Mary was betrothed to Joseph as a virgin. She indeed found favour with God to be the person through whom Jesus the son of the Most High would be born. The circumstances of the kind of conception and giving of birth that Mary would experience were strange, and this prompted her to ask the angel how that kind of situation would come to pass knowing full well that she had never slept with any man. At verse 35, the angel explained to Mary that the power of the Holy Spirit would overshadow her and she would conceive and bear a son.
Mary was in an embarrassing situation because having been betrothed to Joseph, she would face the scandal of unwedded motherhood; she would be accused of adultery
punishable by stoning as stated in Deuteronomy 22:13. She would also face the danger of being rejected by Joseph her fiancé. Yet, for the fact that God had spoken and she
understood God, she willingly submitted to the will of God.
This is an excellent virtue.
The lesson from the above incident is that any time we are faced with strange and incredible situations; we should ask God to be sure that it is He speaking. Once it is God that bids us to do a thing, let us submit and do it. God is able to take care of any ensuing embarrassment. He will see us through.
PRAYER: Heavenly Father, please help me to know your perfect will, and give me the grace to submit to it.
