TEXT: PSALM 1
INTRODUCTION:
The Psalmist begins by presenting the characteristics of a person who is righteous. Such a person is described as blessed. He goes further to give us two ways to lead life; the way of the righteous and the way of the sinner. The way of the righteous gives us blessing, hope, happiness and purpose while the way of the wicked leads to shame, destruction, sadness and hopelessness. Which way do you pursue?
QUESTIONS AND DISCUSSIONS
1. What does it mean to be a blessed man? Psalm 1: 1
2. According to our text, what conditions must you meet in order to be blessed? Are you willing to meet this condition? Psalm 1: 1 – 2; Proverbs 4: 14 – 15; psalm 26: 4 – 6; Psalm 119:4; Jeremiah 15: 16; Psalm 119: 97 – 99.
3. What are the benefits of living a righteous life? Psalm 92: 12 – 15; Jeremiah 17: 7 – 8; Joshua 1: 7 – 8.
4. Why do some people choose the negative ways and not the positive ways to be blessed and prospered today? Job 21: 17 – 18.
CONCLUSION
The bottom line is that the choice of how to live your life is yours. You have the choice to be blessed, as a tree nourished by His living water John 7: 37 – 39; or to perish as the chaff that is worthless and blows away. Matthew 3: 12; 10: 34 – 39; 13: 47 – 50. God loves to bless you, but you need to be worthy of that blessing by meditating on His word, obedient and faithful to His word and deserving to receive this blessing.
MEMORY VERSE
“Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor stands in the path of sinners, nor sits in the seat of the scornful; but his delight is in the law of the Lord, and in His law he meditates day and night.” Psalm 1: 1 – 2
